FlexiSolv® DBE® esters - Paint Strippers

FlexiSolv® DBE® esters are a very effective coating and paint stripper principally due to its excellent solvency and compatibility with numerous other solvents. FlexiSolv® DBE® esters can be used as an effective alternative to other traditional painting stripping solvents. FlexiSolv® DBE® esters are compatible with many other solvents making it ideally suited for many different formulations. Effective formulations with water - in emulsion or microemulsion systems - create water rinseable alternatives.

Paint strippers based on FlexiSolv® DBE® esters are commonly used in formulations for stripping paint, paint spray booths, paint circulating systems, robots, spray guns, nozzles, and as graffiti removers. FlexiSolv® DBE® esters are effective on a wide variety of paints and painted surfaces such as

  • Alkyd
  • Latex
  • Epoxy
  • Marine

  • Wood
  • Metal
  • Brick, stone, etc…
  • Plastic

FlexiSolv® DBE® esters compatibility with plastics and elastomers

FlexiSolv® DBE® esters fractions, such as FlexiSolv® DBE®-LVP esters, FlexiSolv® DBE®-2 esters and FlexiSolv® DBE®-3 esters, are used in consumer paint stripper where they are preferred over FlexiSolv® DBE® esters, due to their lower vapor pressure.

There is growing interest in the reformulation of paint removers away from traditional solvents. This is driven by handling concerns and by changing regulations. FlexiSolv® DBE® esters are readily biodegradable, have a mild, fruity odor and are easy to handle. Strippers based on DBE® esters behave somewhat differently than some of the traditional strippers such as methylene chloride based paint strippers.

While methylene chloride "bubbles" the paint from the surface, FlexiSolv® DBE® esters soften and "dissolve" the paint to a paste like consistency. The softening action of FlexiSolv® DBE® esters can minimize damage to wood substrates (by not raising the wood grain) and often leads to a more complete removal of the paint.
